Love the rail trail where they have turned the old railway into a bike track. I rode a bike 25k each way. Loved the Upper Burringbar tunnel for which you need a light. Stopped at Burringbar for breakfast along the way to fuel the return trip. All up I took around 4 hours to complete the trip. Also check out the Margaret Ollie art museum for great food with a beautiful view across the valley.
Went midday on a Sunday, it was empty, only a few people wandering around. The carpark was packed though. Glad it was quiet like this as I was able to grab a few drone shots. The place itself is great, nice and tidy everywhere. The people around were friendly, the staff at the help/info place and bike shop were also very pleasant.
Great piece of infrastructure, very well constructed. Beautiful surface, great scenery. Very enjoyable for families, beginners and experienced riders. Best done on a gravel bike but MTBs, e-Bikes would be great too. Surface is even doable on a road bike.
Fantastic bike trail, very well constructed can be done on a normal or electric bikes. Remember to take a light for the tunnel! There’s plenty of places to stop along the way for breaks/lunch. We stopped at Hosanna Farm stay for morning tea , it’s so nice with all the different animals, great coffee and delicious food.
Such a fun, flat bike ride! It’s incredible when local councils transform unused land, so that visitors can make the most of and enjoy it! There is a bike hire place at the start, and multiple towns with nice cafes along the way. There are also interesting and education signs to learn about the history of the rail. It was so nice!
Have wanted to ride this trail since it opened. Didn't expect to ride the full length and back, starting at Murwillumbah, but it was really worth doing!
So many scenic vistas, shaded treed areas, great stops along the trail with shelter, bubbler, bike tools and pumps. It really was worth driving from Brisbane to check out.
Fantastic trail for road or mountain bikes. Do as much or as little as you like. If you want to visit the Art gallery (about 2kms from the start at Murwillumbah) take a bike lock as there are a lot of stairs from the trail but there is a bike stand at the bottom.
The elevation on the trail is quite low so it’s well suited for beginners. It’s also well shaded which will be great in summer.
Definitely take a spare tube / one of our riders had a tack in their wheel courtesy of a disgruntled local.
Take lights for the tunnel and some cash if you want to buy fruit from a stand at the end of a path on the side of the trail.
There are a few little towns just off the trail. Make sure to buy something if you can / it’s good for local businesses and will help with the business case to extend the trail.
We stopped at the Moo Moo Roadhouse on the way back for lunch (separate review - recommended for good well-priced food)
Enjoyed my trip Murwillumbah to Crabbes Creek and back (48km). The rail trail is a great concept, I don't get it why there was some objection to it. I can only see benefits for everyone. Get on your bikes or hire one and check out nature's beautiful offerings.
